Welcome to Tony O'Hare Music

This website is an outlet for the music that I've been playing for the last 40-odd years - mainly in & around Bristol, with the odd excursion here and there. I'm currently updating the site so there will be some changes to the content of this site over the next few weeks and months. Watch this space!

I'd class my music as a mix of folk, acoustic, blues and Americana, but really I write and perform just about any type of music that suits, and that I enjoy playing (and have the ability to play!). So, acoustic versions of Hawkwind's space-rock "Silver Machine" and parodies of 70's new wave classic "Sex and Drugs and Rock'n'Roll"Lyrics have appeared in my repertoire over the years.

At heart I'm a song-writer and I write songs about things, so on this website I provide some information and background about the songs themselves, like a sort of intro when you're playing live, as often this helps to put the song into context, and in the end probably improves the whole listening experience (maan!). So next to each song on my site you may find some bits of background & related trivia. Feel free to ignore them...

Cajun JamingI also enjoy playing and jamming with other musicians. One of the great joys of playing music is the people you meet and share your music with. You can catch me locally here in Bristol at folk clubs such as Folk Around Fishponds and The Redcatch Club. I also play in a four-piece MAGRAT with my partner Grace and Martin & Anna Peers - good friends who I first met at The Grapes Tavern in Clifton back in the early 2000's. MAGRAT will be familiar to Terry Pratchett fans, but actually (like ABBA!), is formed from our first name initials. I also play in an informal Cajun band run by Dennis Parnham called Jambalaya. I've been involved in the UK Cajun scene - dancing and playing - for about 20 years, and until lockdown, helped run the Bristol Cajun Swamp Club at Alchemy198 on the Gloucester Rd (now Sidney &MAGRAT Eden). Hopefully we'll be up and running (and dancing) again soon! Check out our Facebook page.

Previously groups I've played with include The Swampmen, Grape Jam & Reg 7 (now The Regz), and some information and photos of these can be found in the Music and Gallery pages. The Old Stillage Jam in Redfield (with Grape Jam and friends) happened once a month for 3 years - great fun.

JambalayaIn recent years I've tended towards writing humorous and satirical songs, with songs about Bristol & bananas, porridge & piles, Wales & women, & much more. Check out the My Music page to listen to someof these. I also have a Youtube channel, where there are some videos of live performances of my songs. See below for what you'll find on the other pages in this site!

Happy listening!

Tony

CD-coverNews 13/4/2022: This is what you've all been waiting for!... my new CD is ready! It's called "Lockdown? What Lockdown?" and is a collection of 13 of my songs written or updated during the last 2 years, heavily influenced by events during the Covid pandemic. There are also 4 bonus tracks included, originally recorded in 2014, but never published. Some of the songs, in true folk tradition, are parodies, or borrow tunes from other songs - I'm sure you'll spot them! Many thanks to Pete Rowley for recording, producing and engineering the CD at his Attic Attack studio in Kingswood, and my partner Grace and musical friends for their playing and singing.

All money from CD sales will be donated to the Disasters and Emergencies Committee for their work in Ukraine and other places around the world where humanitarian aid is urgently needed. I’ve set up a special Justgiving page (just like Captain Tom!) www.justgiving.com/Tony-O-Hare1 for this. Suggested donation £10 per CD. So you can donate via that page, or pay me in cash when you see me, and I’ll  donate on your behalf, or make a donation yourself via the DEC website https://www.dec.org.uk/ . Email me at tonyohare123@gmail.com when you've made a donation, with your name and address, and I'll pop a CD to you in the post or when I see you in person. Every penny raised will be of help in some way. Thank you!
